Although the region is developing rapidly, the infrastructure in the more remote provinces takes time to catch up and therefore some of the roads can become inaccessible in the wet season to virtually all vehicles apart from the most prepared off-road vehicles. Roads can literally become quagmires which can swallow a reasonably sized truck. Therefore there is a wealth of adventure to be had for serious 4x4 enthusiasts. There are some seriously challenging jungle and mountain roads where river crossings can be commonplace. From the jungles of the Cardamom mountains in Cambodia to the remote hilltops and mountain sides of Thailand and Myanmar, there is something for everyone. Even self-drive off-road options are available.
