Adventure Tours in Kep

Experience Coastal Cambodia in Kep!

Founded as a seaside retreat for the French elite in 1908 and a favoured haunt of monied Cambodian the 1960s, sleepy Kep is drawing tourists back with seafood, sunsets and hikes in butterfly-filled Kep National Park.

Compared to nearby Sihanoukville, Kep is less developed and doesn’t have a ‘central commercial area;’ many find this aspect charming as the city doesn’t attract rowdy crowds. Kep Beach is small, but pleasant with a crescent of sand near the tip of the Kep peninsula.

Unwind in the Rustic Splendour of Kep!

Beyond the beach, Kep is known for its national park. This is a wonderful area of jungle, in which it is quite common to see some monkeys and other animals. The circle trail in the park is about 8 km long (a 2-3 hour walk).

If you don’t want to walk, the path is big enough to ride a bicycle or a motorbike, though be prepared for a somewhat bumpy ride. There are even some small benches to enjoy the view and have a rest during the walk.

Kep Adventure Tour FAQs

Is Kep worth visiting?

Kep, despite its relatively small size, is indeed worth visiting. It offers an idyllic seaside escape from the hustle and bustle of larger cities, making it the perfect destination for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty.

The city's relaxed pace of life, stunning coastal views, delicious seafood, and rich history all contribute to its charm. It offers a unique blend of experiences, from exploring the Kep National Park to indulging in fresh seafood at the Crab Market or visiting the remnants of colonial-era villas.

What is the history of Kep?

Kep's history is as fascinating as it is complex. Founded during the French colonial period in 1908, Kep was originally a seaside retreat for the French and Cambodian elite. The remnants of the grand colonial villas that once stood here provide a haunting reminder of its past. During the Khmer Rouge regime, Kep suffered greatly and many of these villas were destroyed. Today, Kep is gradually regaining its allure as a charming coastal city, and efforts are being made to restore its historical buildings.

How many days do you need in Kep?

To fully appreciate what Kep has to offer, a 2-day visit is recommended. This allows sufficient time to explore the Kep National Park, relax on the beach, visit the Crab Market, and take a boat trip to Rabbit Island. You might also wish to spend some time wandering around the town to observe its colonial architecture and engage with the local community.
