Nepal

Nepal is a trekkers’ paradise, combining Himalayan views, golden temples, sleepy hill villages and spectacular jungle wildlife. It contains eight of the world’s ten highest peaks, including Mount Everest – the world’s tallest – on the border with Tibet, and Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.

Nepal was a monarchy for hundreds of years, until it was declared a republic in 2008. While most visitors associate the country with snowy mountains, approximately a third of Nepal is subtropical –– blanketed in tea plantations and paddy fields.

Elevate Your Journey in Nepal

When trekking, most tourists head to the Annapurna region, north of Pokhara, with its spectacular scenery, ease of access and variety of trails. The Everest region, in in the eastern side of the country; one of Nepal’s most thrilling areas, but altitude and distance from the trail bases make shorter treks less viable.

The Helambu and Langtang regions are less dramatic but conveniently close to Kathmandu, attracting many trekkers. South of Nepal’s mountains lies something completely different: a chain of wild and rugged national parks, where nature enthusiasts scan the subtropical treetops for exotic bird species and comb the jungles for rhinos, tigers and crocodiles.

Nepal Adventure Tour FAQs

What is the best time to visit Nepal?

The best time to visit Nepal is generally between October and December, although it can vary depending on your destination.

For Kathmandu and the majority of the country, the post-monsoon period from October to December offers clear skies and pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Average temperatures range from 15-20°C during the day, with cooler evenings.

The Pokhara region, renowned for its trekking opportunities, is best visited during the dry season from October to April. Daytime temperatures range between 15-20°C, offering comfortable conditions for exploring the trails.

If you're planning to venture into Chitwan National Park, the winter months from October to March are recommended, as the weather is mild and the skies are clear, perfect for wildlife viewing. Expect temperatures to hover around 20-25°C during the day, dropping at night.

However, it's worth noting that Nepal experiences fewer tourists in the off-peak monsoon season from June to September, making it a good time to visit if you prefer a quieter travel experience. Keep in mind that rainfall can be heavy, particularly in the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara region.

How many days do you need in Nepal?

Determining how many days you need in Nepal depends on your itinerary and what you wish to experience. For a quick overview of the country, covering the major cities like Kathmandu, Pokhara, and a glimpse of Chitwan National Park, a duration of 1 to 2 weeks would be sufficient. This allows you to sample the culture, history, and natural beauty of Nepal.

However, if you're interested in exploring Nepal's renowned trekking routes or immersing yourself more deeply in the country's distinct culture and landscapes, a longer stay of 3 to 4 weeks is advisable. This provides time for longer treks, such as the Annapurna Circuit or the Langtang Valley Trek, which can take 2 weeks or more, factoring in acclimatization days. It also allows you ample time to soak in the local culture, visit remote villages, and truly experience the diversity of Nepal.

Nepal offers a wealth of experiences and sights. Your trip duration should align with your interests, whether that be cultural exploration, adventure sports, or trekking. Take a look through some of our itineraries or speak to one of our travel experts to help you organise your perfect trip.

Is Nepal cheap or expensive?

The cost of traveling in Nepal largely depends on the type of experience you seek. In general, Nepal is considered one of the more budget-friendly destinations in Asia. Basic accommodation, local meals, and public transportation are quite affordable, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers.

Local food and dining in modest restaurants can be inexpensive, while eating at high-end restaurants in major cities like Kathmandu or Pokhara can be more costly. Similarly, a room in a guesthouse or budget hotel can be quite affordable, but luxury hotels or resorts obviously charge higher prices.

While Nepal can be a budget-friendly destination, the total cost will ultimately depend on the choices you make and the experiences you seek.
