Sri Lanka is an island just south of India that packs an astounding variety of places, including eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites and 26 national parks, to visit within its modest size. This tour is a terrific way to explore five of the most noteworthy parks and Heritage sites on the island. Before heading to the central highlands, your journey commences in Colombo –– the capital and largest city in Sri Lanka. From here you are transported north to Anuradhapura to visit a Buddhist monastery and to explore the Wilpattu National Park. Travel even higher in altitude to spend a day and evening in Kandy and to see the city’s Temple of the Tooth. Moving down the mountain on a spectacular train journey, pay a multi-day visit to the famed, Horton Plains and Yala National Parks –– recognized for their diverse fauna including the elusive leopard and elephants. Your journey is rounded out with rest and relaxation in Tangalle –– a beautiful seaside town featuring miles of warm, golden sand beach.

Day 1
Upon arriving in Colombo, spend the night at your hotel to recover from any jet lag.

Day 2
Travel 2.5 hours by car Anuradhapura –– a town in the hills replete with an ancient Buddhist monastery.

Day 3
Leave early morning to spend the day at Wilpattu National Park. Here, you can spot elephants and various birds. Return in the evening to your hotel in Anuradhapura.

Day 4
Enjoy a morning tour of Anuradhapura before traveling south to Dambulla.

Day 5
Explore the Dambulla Rock Cave Temples dedicated to various gods and goddesses. In the afternoon, travel to the city of Kandy, in the central highlands of the island.

Day 6
Spend the day exploring Kandy with an afternoon journey to Dambana –– a village home to the Vedda people, a friendly minority tribe.

Day 7
Catch a morning train to Nuwara Eliya. Along the way, pass through stunning scenery, consisting of vast swathes of tea plantations. Upon arrival, spend the night and relax at your leisure.

Day 8
Enjoy a full day visit to Horton Plains National Park. This park is home to more than 2,000 Sambar, Bear Monkeys, Leopards, Barking Deer, Giant Squirrels, Fishing Cats, Wild Boars and Hares. In the evening, you will head to Yala to spend the night in your hotel.

Day 9
Enjoy a full day visit to Yala National Park –– Sri Lanka’s most famous park, known for having the highest concentration of leopards per square kilometre.

Day 10
After breakfast, drive to the southern coastal town of Tangalle to enjoy two full days of sand and sea. En route, stop at the Tissamaharama Temple and Kataragama Shrine, two most sacred places of worship in Sri Lanka.

Day 11
Beyond lazing on the beach, you can head to the town of Mirissa to enjoy whale and dolphin watching by boat.

Day 12
Once you check out, you will be transferred 3-hours north by car to Colombo’s international airport for your onward journey.
