The Laos city of Pakse is the capital of the Champasak Province and the gateway to southern Laos. It sits at the confluence of the Mekong and the Se Don (Don River). A lively, well connected town that servers as the jumping off point for your excursion. Begin by visiting the surrounding attractions such as the Bolaven Plateau and Wat Phu Champasak. From Pakse, your journey will take you south, over the Cambodian border to Siem Reap. A major tourist hub, seen mostly as the gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park, otherwise known as ‘Angkor Wat.’ Visitors come to see the temples, but there is plenty to do in and around the city when you're templed out. In recent years, Siem Reap has developed itself into the epicentre of ‘chic’ Cambodia, with everything from stylish hotels, upscale dining, trendy shopping and tours to suit both foodies and adventurers. The city possesses a laid-back feel and is filled with affable locals and expats alike. Outside of the city limits is Angkor Archeological Park and Phnom Kulen –– a mountainous area with stunning, crystalline waterfalls –– ideal for trekking. Hike through jungle, traveling by long boat and cycling through charming villages. These are just a few of the highlights waiting for you on this thrilling journey through two of Southeast Asia’s most beautiful countries.
