Welcome to Bali – the island of gods, home to endless spectacular geological wonders, hidden pristine beach, mystical temples, and unique culture.
Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), our guide is waiting for you at the arrival hall to transfer you to hotel in Ubud – Bali’s culture heart.
This day is devoted to Ubud and its surroundings.
During an exploration walk in the village, appreciate the elegant palace and temple facades with their fine carvings at of Puri Saren Palace, Pura Saraswati, Pura Puseh temples and numerous interesting museums and galleries.
The famous “Monkey Forest” is well worth a visit too, although slightly out of the village center.
At lunchtime, we head towards Tampaksiring where a family of artists is expecting us for lunch in their traditional house.
We come back to Ubud in the afternoon, after enjoying a delicious meal and watching a few traditional dances.
Early morning departure towards Mt Batur volcano (1717m). On its rim in Penelokan, we enjoy a magnificent view of the 14km long crater. Its immense size is evidence of the volcano’s turbulent past, when its height exceeded Mt Agung. Awesome panorama of the cone emerging from the middle of the wide caldera, half-occupied by Bali’s largest lake, while its other half consists of plantations and hardened lava from the 1917 and 1926 eruptions. We hike down the crater and get close to the lava flows.
During the afternoon, we transfer to Kehen temple in the vicinity of Bangli. This temple is said to be one of the most aesthetic in Bali. Then, on to the panoramic Sidemen village, located on the slopes of Mt Agung.
Car transfer: 2 hours
Hiking: 2 hours
The morning is spent hiking around Sidemen’s hilly surroundings, through tropical plantations and rice fields. We cross several hamlets offering plenty of opportunities to meet and interact with locals.
Amidst this luxuriant tropical vegetation, we walk across an old suspension bridge complementing the already very exotic scenery.
At the beginning of the afternoon, we transfer to Mt Agung’s southeastern flank to visit the royal baths of Tirtagangga, literally “holy water of the Ganges”. Officially known as Tirta Ayu, this ancient bath complex was once one among numerous water palaces built by a king of Karangasem. Encircled by multiple terraced paddy fields, this site is ideal for relaxation.
We take the morning to stroll along the rice fields and visit a number of traditional villages specialized in ironwork and silver jewelry.
The afternoon is free, with the possibility of improvising another hike and to further enjoy this exotic land. Some of us might wish to be initiated in Balinese cooking while others will choose to experience local crafts making (at additional charge).
We keep the morning for a last jaunt through the Balinese scenery. Our destination is Bali Aga village of Tenganan. This intriguing place features what has been preserved from the ancient Balinese culture, before the influence of Majapahit, a powerful Hindu Kingdom based in East Java. Visitors are allowed to come only between noon and night fall. These strict measures are meant to avoid the negative influences on the village. In the past, the inhabitants of Tenganan used to sweep the visitors footprints after their departure.
Afternoon transfer toward Sanur, with a stop-over in Klungkung, to view the palace’s ancient court of justice. The rest of the afternoon is free.
Take the morning flight to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) in Flores Island.
Upon arrival, your guide will meet you and drive you to the port to board a boat that has been especially chartered for us. Departure toward Sabolo Island, to enjoy its white-sand beach and beautiful underwater landscapes. During the afternoon, we sail to Seraya. Mooring near this island.
The day is devoted to rest and snorkeling. Bidadari and Kelor islands offer a rich submarine life with beautiful coral reefs, and quiet white-sand beaches.
Today we head to Kalong, which consists mainly of mangroves inhabited by thousands of flying foxes. At nightfall, they fill the sky with a huge black cloud as they set off flying all the way to Flores Island, where they feed mainly on fruit.
Departure to Rinca Island, where the Bajau people live in stilt houses exclusively eating products from the sea. At daybreak, we start hiking to track the famous Komodo “dragon” and many other species like, deer, monkeys, buffalos, and wild horses. The green color of the savanna blends with the blue coves and bays, forming lovely landscapes. Before mid-day, we swim and snorkel on a deserted islet, then head towards Padar, a desolate yet beautiful island. Its beaches count among the best in the world. After enjoying a swim, we spend the end of the afternoon tracking in search of deer. Mooring near one of these fantastic beaches.
Taking advantage of the fresh morning air, we go for a walk on Komodo Island. There, we have a nice view of our boat mooring in the turquoise waters of the bay. At mid-day, we start sailing to Gili Laba to enjoy more beach and snorkeling time, plus a panoramic hike to enjoy a view on the entire archipelago.
In the morning, we sail to “Manta Point” to witness the magnificent ballet of this elegant and impressive marine animal. It is possible to swim close by, but still at a safe distance. We head towards Mushroom Rock and Kanawa Island in the afternoon and arrive early enough to appreciate the beach and underwater landscapes. Stroll on the island to contemplate the sunset.
In the morning, we have a last opportunity to snorkel before sailing back to Labuan Bajo port. Arrival in late afternoon and transfer to hotel in Labuan Bajo.
